I saw a post where people were arguing about who from Its Always Sunny would be in what spot on the Does/Doesn't understand/invest in crypto chart, and the fundamental flaw of every argument was that they assumed they could populate all four squares.
The truth is every character in the show would invest in crypto, and none of them would know what it is. The only differences are the ways in which they don't understand it and how they end up investing. Breaking it down:
Dee - Okay we saw exactly how this would go down in Mac and Dennis Buy a Timeshare. Dee is our early adopter. Some guy tells her about his fancy new blockchain coin and she invests right away, taking him completely at his word. She tells the rest of the gang about crypto and they laugh at her and call her a bird, shaking her confidence. She spends the rest of the episode trying and failing to cash out because of convoluted transaction processes and the price constantly jumping.
Dennis and Mac - As soon as Dee is out of earshot, Dennis tells everyone that he thinks the blockchain is a great idea, and Mac agrees. Seeing themselves as "wealth creators," they become cryptominers. They try to build a server farm by stealing computers from everyone they know and following an online tutorial for setting up mining software. Mac brought a pickaxe and doesn't understand when he's supposed to swing it. After a few weeks they think it's weird they haven't made any money, and figure out what they actually installed was malware that used their machines to mine crypto for somebody else. Their electricity bill is $20,000.
Frank - Now you might be thinking "Frank's an amoral businessman who loves scams and hates the environment. Why wouldn't he understand crypto?" And while thats all true, he's also completely tech illiterate. He immediately pegs crypto as a scam of some sort, but doesn't actually get how it works, so he tries to "get in on the action" by making his own money using a fax machine and a wad of hundreds. Through a comedy of errors, the police arrive to arrest him for forgery, but the guy who scammed Dee thinks they're there for him, and he immediately destroys his own laptop to hide evidence of his involvement in black market transactions. The laptop was also hosting his crypto marketplace, so this completely wipes out Dee's investment.
Charlie - He absolutely does not understand crypto, and probably thinks it has something to do with mothman. Frank tries to get him involved in his scheme, but fires him when Charlie puts doodles of bigfoot on all the counterfeit money. Charlie decides he'll sell "his own crypto" by peddling his ugly bigfoot art on the street. Some tech entrepreneurs happen to pass by, trick him into letting them take pictures of his art, and post them online as $100,000 NFTs.
So to summarize:
